Propagation of Sound Waves Under Water, and Speculate How Navy Sonar Waves Interfere with Cetacean Undersea Navigation

The U.S. Navy conducts sonar tests that may be harmful to undersea creatures like whales and dolphins. As many scientists today study the lives of the underwater creatures, the amount of pollution that we cause against our planet increases substantially every year. One of the devastating pollution that we cause that disrupts the life cycle many underwater creatures are the noise pollution. Noise pollution can be a huge impact on many of the life under water since they use sound to find a mate, food, and direction. Some may imagine that sound made underwater becomes distorted. Scientist says that “sound travels five times faster in water than it does in air.” The sound waves can travel through water faster because the compared to air particles, the water particles are closer. Allowing the sound wave to transmit faster between the water particles. The sound is instead excreted and underwater creator that uses sound as their means of survival. Underwater creatures use sound to echo a signal and determine the distance, proximity, direction, speed, and proportion of an object by the echo reflecting back. By having industrial noise pollution, these sea creatures would lose this ability.
